Colorado Senate passes youth-concussion bill
The Senate on Tuesday adopted Senate Bill 40, the "Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Act," requiring K-12 school sports coaches to be trained in dealing with concussions.
DENVER (Colorado News Agency) - February 23, 2011 -- The Colorado Senate on Tuesday adopted Senate Bill 40, the "Jake Snakenberg Youth Concussion Act," requiring K-12 school sports coaches to be trained in dealing with concussions. The, named in memory of a Colorado high school athlete who died after multiple concussions, codifies procedures that must be followed when youth athletes sustain a blow to the head along with an educational requirement for coaches and trainers regarding concussion recognition. The bill, sponsored by Sens. Linda Newell, D-Littleton, and Nancy Spence, R-Centennial, now heads to the House.
