For each Mt. Vesuvius Burger sold, Red Robin will donate fifty cents to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children to support child safety education and more.

GREENWOOD VILLAGE, Colo., July 27, 2011 -- Burger enthusiasts nationwide will have the opportunity to taste America’s newest gourmet burger recipe – created by a 12-year-old chef – while also supporting an important cause. From Tuesday, July 26, to Sunday, Sept. 11, Red Robin Gourmet Burgers, Inc. (Red Robin) will feature Wichita, Kan., resident 12-year-old Donovan Duggins’ Mt. Vesuvius Burger in all U.S. Red Robin® restaurants. For each Mt. Vesuvius Burger sold*, Red Robin will donate fifty cents to the National Center for Missing & Exploited Children® (NCMEC) to support its child safety education, and abduction and exploitation prevention efforts.

Red Robin, the gourmet burger expert for more than 40 years, selected Duggins’ Mt. Vesuvius Burger recipe – made with a beef patty, sesame seed bun, crumbled blue cheese, bacon, provolone cheese and his own Lava Sauce, consisting of sweet BBQ sauce, hot sauce, garlic powder and paprika – as the winning burger during the fifth annual Kids’ Cook-Off Championship in December 2010. Since 2006, Red Robin has donated more than $220,000 to NCMEC through its Kids’ Cook-Off program.

“I’m so excited my Mt. Vesuvius Burger will be sold at Red Robin to help missing kids,” said Duggins, who, in addition to being the Kids’ Cook-Off champion, also is an accomplished viola player and composer. “I hope everyone tries my burger this summer to support the National Center.”

Thousands of kids from across the country submitted gourmet burger recipes for the fifth annual event, and the top 50 recipes, including Duggins’, are now featured in a burger cookbook. The cookbook is available for free download at www.redrobin.com and also includes back-to-school child safety tips from NCMEC.

This year, to see how grown-up burger recipes stack up against kid-created recipes, today through Sunday, Sept. 11, Red Robin is challenging adult burger lovers across the country to customize a gourmet burger creation in the first “People’s Burger” contest by visiting www.thepeoplesburger.com, and describing it in a Twitter-style fashion of 140 characters or less. Burger entries will be voted on by friends and family and then judged by a panel of experts, including recently-named Chief Burger Officer Michael Morrison, Red Robin Executive Chef Dave Woolley, and Duggins. The grand prize recipe will be named “The People’s Burger” and the winning mastermind chef will receive Red Robin YUMMM® for a year**, an Apple® iPad 2, and a Red Robin party where their winning burger will be served to 25 of their friends and family. Two runners-up will also receive Red Robin YUMMM® for a year.
